House Council On Thursday, September 15th at the 5- 12th Back to School Night the leadership of St. Paul’s Academy along with faculty spoke broadly about the middle / upper school programs and about each content area of study. Parents had an opportunity to visit with their student’s advisor and teachers, to ask questions, and to receive handouts of relevant information for each course.

As newly elected student House Council President I was asked to explain the purpose and objective of the council to the parents. The following information was shared:

Designed as a group of students who plan, coordinate and implement activities for the student body of St. Paul’s and it’s surrounding community.  We provide events such as school dances, spirit weeks, dress up days, and house color days. We celebrate such national recognition days as sausage pizza day, M&M day, jellybean day, donut day, and many more.  We do fundraisers and donate the money raised to places like the Lighthouse Mission, Amy’s Place, Lydias place and the Salvation Army.

This year our goal is, in addition to providing fun and positive intentions toward school moral, to sponsor at least one event per month for the students, and Sponsor one event per quarter that is communities based. These events will be Designed to help those less fortunate than us, and/or to promote good intentions throughout the immediate community that surrounds St. Paul’s Academy.

We offer some events that raise money for house council so we can provide these opportunities.  Our fundraising goes toward supplies, prizes, DJs for dances, printing costs, etc.  It also helps us understand financial responsibility, fiscal management, and overall financial awareness.  Our main fundraiser is the school store, where we sell lunch items like soups, and Mac and cheese. We sell drinks, chips, granola bars, fruit snacks and fruit rollups, among other things. This year we will also be selling t-shirts. All in all, house council focuses on providing school events that are fun and engaging, and community events that are meaningful.

Thank you for supporting our efforts.

A special thanks to Trisha Neary for serving at the House Council’s advisor for the second year.
