Education: University of Washington, Master of Library and Information Science
Hope College, B.A. English Secondary Education

Treasure Samuel was born in Washington but raised in Oregon on a small farm with dogs, cats, birds, and pygmy goats. She attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where she studied English, History, Dance, Education, and How To Survive Lake Effect Snow When You Are From Oregon. She hightailed it back to Washington after college, where she taught high school Language Arts in Maple Valley. She also coached dance team and assisted in the direction and choreography of the middle school drama productions.  She moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington iSchool, and after earning her MLIS, Treasure was a children and teen librarian for Seattle Public Library. She took a number of years off to raise her two daughters and is excited to back working with classes of students. Both her daughters attend The Franklin Academy, and she loves seeing them thrive in the small classroom environment. When not at the library or reading, Treasure ferries her children around, plays with their rescue dog Bert, or plans her next travel adventure with her husband.

A favorite saying by Marianne Williamson, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliantgorgeoustalented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
