Trustees

Nadia Boulos (Member at Large) joined The Franklin Academy Board of Trustees in 2019 as a parent representative. She previously worked as a Marketing Manager for four years at Alpha Technologies, a power solutions company in Bellingham, and dabbled in real estate with the Muljat Group for two years. She is currently a web designer and social media manager. She has previously served on the school’s auction committee and PALS. She is a proud WWU alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing. Her background includes marketing, public relations, web design, and event planning. She was raised in Lebanon and has been living in Bellingham since 2001 with her husband and her two children, Anabelle and Andrew (both in Middle School).

Jennifer Bowles (Secretary, Executive Committee) joined The Franklin Academy Board of Trustees in 2018.  She grew up in South California and moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Puget Sound, where she received her BS in Business.  She fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and never moved back to California. Jennifer has worked in the financial services industry since 2001, in both banking and insurance, and currently works at Peoples Bank in the Commercial Banking Division. She and her husband, Jeff, have two daughters (5th at Franklin Academy and Graduate from 8th Grade respectively). When she is not working or shuttling kids around, Jennifer enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, skiing, and enjoying life in the Pacific Northwest.

One of her favorite mottos is, “Your vibe attracts your tribe.”

Tung M. Ha, DO (President, Executive Committee) joined The Franklin Academy Board of Trustees in 2018. Tung was born and raised in Arizona and is a graduate of Brandeis University (1997) and the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (2001).  He completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center (2007). Upon finishing his surgical training, Tung served in the U.S. Army at Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He deployed to Iraq in 2010 with the 53rd Head and Neck Surgical Team to Joint Base Balad. Tung was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army in 2011 and moved his family to Bellingham.  He is a partner at Fourth Corner Neurosurgical Associates and serves as the Medical Director of their ambulatory surgery center, the Cascade Outpatient Spine Center. He is active in the business and politics of medicine and is a Board Member of the Washington Ambulatory Surgery Center Association. He is married and has two daughters at the Franklin Academy.

Nicholas Kaiser (Treasurer, Executive Committee) joined The Franklin Board of Trustees in 1993, since then he has served multiple terms.  A Bellingham native, he was educated in Canada, Connecticut, and Chicago.  After selling his Indianapolis investment firm to a major insurance company, he returned to Bellingham and founded Saturna Capital in 1989.  Now with over 80 employees and $4 billion of assets under management, Saturna is the primary financial donor to The Franklin Academy.  Chairman of Saturna Capital, Mr. Kaiser serves Saturna’s 15 mutual funds as trustee, president, and equity portfolio manager.

Mr. Kaiser, along with his wife and seven children, supports a range of educational and community activities, such as Western Washington University and the Boy Scouts. Locally, he received the Whatcom Business Alliance’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.  Several of his grandchildren have and are attending The Franklin Academy.

Sarah Kaiser (2nd Vice President, Executive Committee) joined The Franklin Academy Board of Trustees in 2010. Founder of SKB Events, she has been designing and producing client events professionally since 2006. Her background includes planning events, both domestically and internationally for a wide array of companies and non-profits. An alumna of Annie Wright’s Class of ’93 and Vassar College’s Class of ’97, she is thrilled her daughter will be going to Annie Wright for high school. Her daughter graduated from 8th Grade in 2019, and her son graduated in 2020.

John Mulhern (1st Vice President, Executive Committee) joined The Frankin Academy Board of Trustees as the parent representative in 2017, serving in that capacity for two years.  He has been an instrumental part of many facilities upgrades and vital construction projects at all campuses. He was born and raised in Whatcom County and is an alumnus of the Franklin Academy preschool, formerly Little Epistles Preschool.  He attended Central Washington University, graduating with degrees in; Law and Justice, Sociology, and Psychology. After college, John began working for Whatcom County Public Works and is currently working on the Lummi Island Ferry.  John is retired after 28 years of being a volunteer firefighter with the Lummi Island Fire Dept. with the rank of Captain. He and his wife, Tracey, have a daughter in the middle school.

Thomas Jones (Member at Large) joined The Franklin Academy Board of Trustees in 2021.  Thomas is a recent retiree from Western Washington University where he served as Financial Manager for the Western Washington University Foundation.  Previous employers include University of Washington, Bellingham Technical College and Western Washington University.  Thomas holds a double degree in history and economics from the University of Washington and an MBA from Western Washington University.
